Giuditta Vendrame
Giuditta Vendrame is an Italian artist, designer and researcher based in the Netherlands.
She looks at rivers, lakes, seas, oceans not as topographical dividers but as connectors. Water adapts and changes state: it freezes and evaporates. Bodies of water offer her the opportunity to challenge and re-imagine the notion of citizenship, territory and borders. Understanding the world from its “humid” perspective suggests a new possible order which is less stable, ever changing and circular. It opposes the Western “terracentric” attitude, as historian M. Rediker suggests, of looking at the world solely from its national, bounded, territorial view.
